Hallway Painting in Richmond

The hallway is the first room visitors see — it sets expectations for the rest of the house. We prepare all surfaces before any paint goes on: cracks and holes are filled, sanded flush, and primed.

On lime plaster walls common in TW9 and SW13 period properties, we assess absorption before specifying the correct primer. Two finish coats are standard. We advise on finishes that make narrow hallways feel taller and better-lit.

Period hallways in Richmond and Kew frequently have dado rails, picture rails, and original coving. Cutting in cleanly around each element requires patience and skill.

We specify durable, washable finishes for hallway walls as standard. Eggshell is our default for woodwork. Matt emulsion with a hardener additive works well on walls where abrasion is a concern.
